Introduction to Bjornborn: Book One of Breath of Life

Art by Alessandro Soratto

Bjornborn is the first book in the Breath of Life series. The original title was simply ‘Breath of Life.’ After realizing I had way more to say than I thought, Breath of Life became the title for the entire series. I already plan on a book two, but I have so many ideas that maybe I can push that number to three or four. However many it takes to complete the main story.

Bjornborn is the story of Roy, an orphan boy who finds himself among the Dragonguard, a highly esteemed group is full of dragon slayers, monster hunters, scholars, and mages. He struggles with the consequences of a tragedy and his new reality, one that provides both closure and concern.

I started writing Bjornborn a year ago. Before that, I had two novels partially done, but unfinished. This is the first novel I’ve ever completed, and it’s currently in editing.

I look forward to talking about it more; there’s so much to the world that may not even see the light of day. It reminds me of how Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire has an entire thought-out ecosystem for the titular city, only to never really use it. The writers used it for context for the story, and it strengthened the movie.

I can go on forever about Atlantis. Thank you for reading, and I think the next post will be about one of the creatures I built out based on a mythological creature from Balkan mythology. I’ll explain the real-world reference, as well as the race in Bjornborn that was inspired by it. I look forward to telling you all once I get my thoughts in order!
